Interesting New Year's Crafts For Kids




Now that your children have decided to stay up all night to ring in the changes, you have to arrange a few activities too. You can’t have them flopping off to sleep before midnight. So, here are 6 New Year craft ideas that will guarantee a fun time for you and your preschoolers.


1. Shimmering New Year Streamers:

You Will Need:

  • Cardstock
  • Wrapping paper
  • Adjustable circle cutter
  • Spray adhesive
  • Hole punch
  • Monofilament
  • Jump rings
  • Thumbtacks
How To:
  1. Spray the card stock pieces with adhesive on both the sides and cover with the wrapping paper.
  1. Cut the circles from the wrapped card stock using a circle cutter.
  1. Punch a hole at the top and bottom of the circle, except for the smallest circle. In the small circle, make a hole at the top edge.
  1. Connect the circles using the jump rings. Place the largest circle at the top and smallest at the bottom. Repeat the process to make some more streamers.
  1. Use the thumbtack and monofilament to hang the Streamer from the ceiling.

2. Party Blowers:


You Will Need:
  • Plastic straw
  • Double-sided sheet adhesive
  • Vellum
  • Scissors
  • Transparent tape
  • Decorative paper
  • Pencil
  • Decorative tape
  • Rubber band
  • White glue
How To:
  1. Tell your kid to cut a straw 6 inches long. Now tell him to cut a 2-inch wide strip of vellum of the same length.
  1. Apply the adhesive to the vellum, but without removing the protective backing.
  1. Tell your kid to curl the strip around the straw and mark the point where the end of the piece meets the other.
  1. Cut the strip at the mark, giving just the perfect width to cover the straw.
  1. Now ask your kid to remove the backing and roll the vellum onto the straw, evenly.
  1. Cut a 2*10 inch rectangle from the decorative paper. Fold the sides of the paper to meet at the center.
  1. Cover the seam totally with a transparent tape. Fold a ½ inch of one end, and fix with a tape.
  1. Now ask your kid to begin rolling the tongue tightly around the pencil by starting at the sealed end. Wrap it with a rubber band.
  1. Now tell your child to remove the rubber band and fold in the corners of the open end.
  1. Dab white glue on the inside of the folds and inside the opening. Put the stem into the tongue, press tightly and cover the joint with a decorative tape.

3.Feather and Flower Mask:

You Will Need:
  • Mask template – Download
  • Black crafting foam sheet
  • Fake flower petals
  • Colored crafting feathers
  • Hot glue gun
  • Glitter
  • Elmer’s glue
  • Elastic thread or ribbon
How To:
  1. Print the mask template, trace on the foam sheet and cut it out. Your kid also has to poke holes on each side of the mask.
  1. Have your kid select the feathers and glue to both sides of the mask. Three colors would look great, but you can even go with two. Make sure the feathers are of the same width and length. Tell your kid to glue around the edges using hot glue gun.
  1. After placing the feathers, cut some petals from the fake flower and stick over the feather stems using the hot glue gun.
  1. Cover the base of the petals generous with Elmer’s glue. Your kid has to make a precise outline around the eye holes.
  1. Dust a ton of glitter on the glue and leave it to dry. When it dries, thread through a piece of ribbon.
  1. Shake off the excess and your kid is ready to rock the New Year party.

 4.New Year Eve’s Wishing Tree:

You Will Need:
  • Metallic paint
  • Cardstock
  • Star shaped cookie cutter
  • Hole punch
  • Scissors
  • Glitter
  • A small sized tree
  • Shallow dish
How To:
  1. In a shallow dish, pour some metallic paint. Press the cookie cutter into it and put on the card. Your kid can give a wiggle if he wants a thicker outline. Make sure your kid lifts the cookie cutter carefully.
  1. When the paint is still wet, sprinkle some glitter on it. Leave it dry overnight.
  1. When the paint dries, cut it out around the star shape and punch a hole in the top.
  1. Tell your kid to thread a ribbon or yarn through the hole and write, “I wish…” on the glitter side.
  1. When your kid has written his wish on the star, he can hang it on the wishing tree.

5. Tropical Colors Noise Maker:


You Will Need:
  • Empty paper towel or toilet paper rolls
  • Aluminum foil
  • Noisy bits like pebbles, and bells
  • Decorative tape
How To:
  1. Close the end of the toilet paper roll with layers of aluminum foil attached with tape.
  1. Fill 1/3 of the roll with the noisy bits. Tell your kid to close the other end also with the foil and tape.
  1. Allow your kid to decorate the tube with yellow, blue and green tape. Now shake, shake, and shake!
It can make a great new years eve crafts.

6. New Year’s Resolution Craft:

You Will Need:
  • Colored Popsicle sticks
  • Felt
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Paper with resolution written on it
  • Ribbon
  • Decorations for the frame
How To:
  1. Tell your kid to select four Popsicle sticks and assemble to make the frame using hot glue gun. Leave it to dry for a few minutes.
  1. Now tell your kid to decorate the frame using buttons, jewels, paper cut out or anything they like. Again, leave it to dry for a few hours.
  1. When it dries, cut out a piece of felt about the size of the frame and stick on the back of it.
  1. You can either print out your kid’s resolution or write it on a card stock.
  1. Tell your kid to stick the paper in the middle of the felt. You will enjoy making this new years craft ideas.
